New Research by Thames Water has revealed 6 in ten of us aren’t sure what we can and can’t put down our loos and sinks.

Earlier this year the company cleared a 100-tonne, 125-metre-long fatberg from a sewer under the streets of Feltham and Bedfont.

These are solid masses of congealed grease, and non-biodegradable waste like wet wipes, sanitary products, and cotton buds.

Every year the company removes 3.8bn wet wipes that have been flushed, at a cost of £18 million per year.

Bosses say 25% of people still believe disposable wipes are safe to flush, mainly due to confusing labelling on toiletry items.

In short, if it’s not loo paper, don’t flush it.
