A firefighter has had a dramatic start to his career after rescuing three children from a blaze in Croydon on his fourth day in the job.

The fire was started by an exploding e-bike battery in a ground floor communal hallway in London Road.

Several people were trapped in flats when firefighter Zekel Johnson arrived on the scene.

The 30 year old climbed a 13.5 metre ladder and helped guide a child out of the window before going back up to rescue two more.
