Investigators have found an 11-year-old boy had been ‘distracted’ by his phone, when he was hit by a train and killed in a part of Croydon.

The Southern service had been travelling at 50mph when Jaiden Shehata was walking to Riddlesdown Collegiate school in Purley.

The driver hit the emergency brake following the incident in January.

Network Rail says it’s now putting in lights at the Bourneview footpath crossing in Kenley.
