The council’s refuse collection fleet now operates on a hydrotreated vegetable oil fuel, derived from cooking oil.
The switch means Hounslow’s bin lorries release significantly lower emissions compared to regular diesel trucks.
50 new lorries will join the bin fleet between now and 2028, as part of Hounslow Council’s Climate Emergency Plan.
