Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Maysoule Road.
The fourth floor and the roof space of a five-storey residential building were destroyed by fire.
Around 150 people were evacuated from the building by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus, with around 60 people displaced. There were no reports of any injuries.
Two of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders were used as water towers to help extinguish the fire from height.
The Brigade’s drone team also attended, providing the Incident Commander with a greater situational awareness of the fire.
The Brigade took the first of 42 calls at 7.09pm and mobilised crews from Battersea, Wandsworth, Fulham, Clapham and other surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was brought under control at 11pm.
The cause of the fire will be investigated by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Team.
Statement from Wandsworth Council;
The safety and security of residents who have had to leave their homes is our top priority. We ensured everyone who had to evacuate had a place to stay, including through council-arranged emergency accommodation. We will continue to work closely with residents to ensure they have appropriate arrangements in place at this difficult time.
A support hub at York Gardens Library has been set up with council teams in place to support residents.
We appreciate the community concern and understand people want to help their neighbours, but please refrain from donating clothing and other items as everything is being coordinated through the council so that we can ensure residents get the support they need. We are aware that local fundraising is taking place which residents wishing to donate can consider.
Residents in need of support can visit the hub at York Gardens library.
