15-year-old Tonda was part of the Rothschild herd which is an endangered subspecies.
Tonda joined Chessington in 2013, aged just three years old.
The resort says he underwent a routine veterinary health procedure, carried out under the care of an expert team of external veterinary specialists and hoofstock zookeepers, but did not recover.
