Julie Haines served as a councillor for both the Cambridge and Coombe Vale wards between 1986 and 2006.
Over her 20 years in office, she helped save New Malden Post Office from closure and supported the creation of a teaching pool at the Malden Centre.
The title of Honorary Alderman may be deliberated on former councillors who have served a minimum of 12 years.
