Their reward is a third round tie at home to Newcastle, who also needed spot-kicks to win their game at Nottingham Forest, following a 1-all draw.
West Ham beat Bournemouth 1-nil to book themselves a tie against holders Liverpool.
Wolves and Brentford also progressed.
