Croydon’s Mayor has secured a meeting with a government minister to discuss the “financial challenges” the borough is facing.

It’s after Jason Perry wrote to the new Labour administration asking for a solution to tackle its historic debt problem.

The authority carries a £1.6bn debt burden from the previous administration and has been declared bankrupt three times since 2020.

Jim McMahon, the Minister of State for Local Government, has confirmed he will meet with Mayor Perry after summer recess.
