An independent investigation was launched after a man was shot by armed police in the early hours of last Sunday in Knaphill.

Officers were called to an address on Nursery Road just before 1am following reports of an altercation between two people including a man armed with a weapon in the street.

Officers attended and a man in his 20s was shot by armed police at the scene.

Police say both parties involved in this incident were known to each other, and there is no anticipated risk to the wider public.

Authorities say body-worn footage showed the 29-year-old opening the door in Knaphill with a weapon pointed towards an officer.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but died yesterday.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct says it’s investigating the circumstances.
