In a statement, the Met says it has become aware of plans for what it is calling “disorder” in the town.

Police say the actions of those seeking to cause violence is “completely unacceptable”.

They say extra police will be on hand as reassurance for residents and to” stand against all forms of abuse.”

Meanwhile, Hounslow Council’s leader, Shantanu Rajawat has also issued a statement.

He says the authority is working to try and verify claims made on social media and in WhatsApp messages.

He says Hounslow not only celebrates diversity, but thrives on it and there “will not be any place for hate and division.”
