Lambeth Council is urging the government to look at how the National Funding Formula is acting against schools in urban areas.

Due to the cost-of-living crisis, Brexit, and a one-third drop in birth rates since 2016, fewer children are going to school in Lambeth.

In a letter to the Secretary of State for Education, the council explains how falling pupil numbers means less funding, leaving schools in debt.

There are currently 529 vacancies in reception class alone, which is the equivalent to 18 empty classrooms.
