A rescue deal for Wilko – involving the owner of HMV – has collapsed, a blow for thousands of workers.

It’s understood Doug Putman has ended talks with administrators about acquiring around 100 of the homeware chain’s stores.

The Putney branch will stop trading tomorrow, with the Hammersmith and New Malden stores closing on Thursday.

B-and-M’s agreed to buy 51 branches – but that deal doesn’t necessarily include the staff working at those sites.
