Areas with fewer trees and green spaces can be up to 5 degrees Celsius warmer during the UK’s hottest days.

Heat maps from TerraSulis and Friends of the Earth looked at cities including London, and found it was cooler in less-built up neighbourhoods.

A picture of the capital shows cool spots in parks, including Clapham Common and Battersea.

The group is calling for ULEZ expansion and more clean air zones.

Chris Stark, chief executive of the Climate Change Committee, is urging the government to address the issue.
