Swift Bricks are being built into Cala Homes’ “Treetops” and “St Peter’s Quarter” housing estates.
Made of a type of concrete, these tiny, specialised bricks have a hollow interior for Swift birds to nest in.
Some MPs want them to be made mandatory on all new housing developments.
Swifts are now on the red list of Birds of Conservation Concern in the UK after their numbers fell by 62% between 1995 and 2021.
The reasons behind their decline are not yet fully understood but loss of suitable nesting sites can certainly be an issue in some areas.
