Reports suggest a number of people had gathered outside a block of flats, concerned for the welfare of a “teenage girl” inside one of them before police arrived and arrested a man.

Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:

“Residents may be aware of an incident on London Road, Hounslow, reported to the police on the evening of Sunday, 11 January. Police have confirmed that a 34 year old man was arrested on suspicion of domestic common assault. Officers have confirmed that no other offences have been reported, and they are working to establish the full circumstances.

“We remain in close contact with the police and understand the concern this has caused locally. The Council is working with our partner and community organisations to help ensure communities are informed and feel reassured. We’re asking residents to avoid speculation, be aware there may be inaccurate information being circulated on news sites and social media, and allow the police, supported by the Council, to complete their investigation.

“I’d encourage anyone with information to contact the police by calling 101 and quoting CAD 5081/11Dec, or get in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

It’s the second statement the council leader has issued to residents this week, the first followed a fatal stabbing in Feltham on Monday.
